‘UN should turn towards incidents in Tibet’
Chennai,Aug 4 (PTI) A Tibetan campaign demanding a free homeland from China today appealed to the United Nations to turn its attention towards the “incidents inside Tibet.” “We appeal to all governments and the United Nations to call on China to genuinely uphold international human rights standards and norms,” Sherab Tsedor, who is leading the ‘A Messenger of Snowland’ campaign for free Tibet told reporters here. The blindfolded activist said 45 Tibetans have set themselves ablaze for the cause in their home country. “We strongly urge China to respect the fundamental right of the Tibetans to freely practice their religion and end the so called Patriotic Reeducation Campaign. The UN should turn towards incidents in Tibet,” he said. Leading the campaign from Kerala since March, Tsedor is planning to cover major cities and towns in the country to spread awareness on the demand for free Tibet and is also collecting signatures, which he is planning to submit to the United Nations Human Rights Commissioner in Delhi in December.
